5 Random Question Meme   6 comments

My sister Ellen tagged me for a question meme. The rules? Simple, she posed 5 random questions for 5 different bloggers who answer them and come up w/ 5  new random questions for 5 more lucky people….and so the cycle of the meme continues on and on! Thanks, Ellen. I hope I can come up with 5 questions to pass along…

Here are Ellen’s 5 random questions:

1. God has decided to send you on a Mission trip, where are you going and why?

Europe.  Religion is more cultural than a personal relationship with Jesus.  Would love to see a revival in that part of the world.

2. You have a free afternoon to read uninterrupted. Where would you choose to read?

I would read outside in the shade on a chaise lounge with my fountain and the birds serenading me.

3. You get to choose where your kids will go to college, money and grades are not an issue. Where would you want them to go and why? If you don’t have kids where would you have wanted to go to college if money and grades were not an issue?

No kids, but if I were to go to college it would be Christ Church, one of the largest colleges in the University of Oxford – Here’s a picture – Need I say more?

christ-church.jpg

4. If you were stuck in an elevator for over an hour what music would you want playing while you were stuck?

Jazz and lots of it!

5. You have to travel from the west coast to the east coast of your country, what 5 cities would you want to spend time in?

I am picking 5 states rather than just 5 cities.  I would pick Montana, Wyoming, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. My husband would research all the best spots to go to in these states and I know I would enjoy each one!

Here are my 5 random questions:

  1. Are you a morning person or an evening person?
  2. If you had the chance to travel by boat, train AND plane on your next vacation, name the destination you would choose for each of these methods of transportation.
  3. Other than Jesus, which biblical character would you like to meet and why?
  4. Do you have any brothers and sisters and if so how many?
  5. Do you prefer the beach or the mountains and why?

I am tagging Lisa, Susanne, Deena, Kim, and Mandy. Ladies if for any reason you choose not to participate there are absolutely no worries… )

If you do play make sure you send me your link so I can see your answers.

My Ideal Mall Tag   4 comments

I was tagged by my sister Ellen to create my Ideal Mall.  Here are the details of this tag:

You get to create your own Mall. Choose 6 stores that would definitely be included in your ideal one stop mall. Then as a bonus you can pick your favorite restaurant and fast food eatery to be located there, too. After you’ve created it, post it and tag some bloggers to join in the fun. You don’t have to post pictures. I’m a visual person and pictures make me happy. Here we go…

I like pictures too!  Here are my choices:

1.  Whole Foods – This is my grocery store!

Word Challenge   10 comments

I have been tagged by Maria over at  Wordsmith Me

Often times, we use words without thinking about their impact.  Choosing the right word means understanding who our audience is.  We must be careful not to misuse our thesaurus to simply find a different, overstated, or trendy word.  Mark Twain said it best:

right-word.jpg“The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.”

If we dare to believe that the pen is truly mightier than the sword, we can’t forget that words are powerful tools in the wordsmith’s toolbox

Here is the Challenge: Pick two or three common words that through overuse have lost their power or that fail to convey meaning precisely.  Then choose better alternatives and place them in sample sentences.

My word choices are:

1. numerous (instead of ‘lots’) Actually, there are numerous words that could be used instead of the word ‘lots’. (The word ‘lots’ is exhausted and needs a vacation.)

2. peculiar (instead of ‘weird’ or ‘funny’) The clerk had a peculiar method of stocking the shelves.

3. consider (instead of ‘think’) “Why should any of you consider it incredible that God raises the dead?” (Acts 26:8 TNIV)

This challenge made me stop and consider the words I have chosen to express my thoughts in the past and what words I will be choosing in the future!

Thank you Maria! I am off to search for better words!

I am tagging Ellen, Scotti and Cynthia  for this challenge!  Ladies,  if you do not want to make this an actual post on your site, feel free to just leave your answers as a comment on my post.  Good luck!
