Metamorphosis Monday – Guest Room   12 comments

It’s Monday and time for another Metamorphosis Monday.  Today I am going to show you my no cost Guest Room makeover.   Here’s the Before shot…

january-25a

Nothing like accentuating your white walls!  I do plan on painting this summer but until then I really needed to perk up this drab room!  So, here’s the After…

january-251

I used a sheet I had picked up at the Goodwill as a new bed spread and covered the head board with a curtain sheer.  I had the pillow shams from a previous purchase.  The decorative pillow I had in another room.  I moved some pictures from other rooms in the house and then used the rose vine to accentuate the picture – not my drab walls!

This little makeover took an hour to do and I used items I already had to do it.  My guest room went from drab to not so drab.  I am really looking forward to painting this summer!  For more Met Monday posts, head on over to Susan’s!

Metamorphosis Monday – My Closet   23 comments

Susan over at Between Naps on the Porch is hosting Metamorphosis Monday.  This is the first week of this wonderful event and I can’t wait to show you my closet reorganization project.  Since the New Year began, I have been on a de-clutter kick – in other words I have been nesting for 19 days now! (No, I am not pregnant 🙂 )  The de-clutter bug has decided to hang with me for awhile and I am going at it with gusto!  Here’s one of my many projects – My Closet!

collages47

This project cost me a total of $36.  The only items I purchased were the wire cubes and drawer boxes from Fred Meyer.  I filled FOUR 30 gallon trash bags with clothes that I will be taking to Goodwill.  I arranged my clothes in sleeve length order then by color.  You could get real fancy with this project and get matching wood hangers, but that would have limited my space.  Those hangers are huge and expensive!  Here’s the after shot:

I love the way it turned out and it truly reflects the de-clutter theme I seem to be pursuing!

For more Metamorphosis projects, head on over to Susan’s and may you be motivated to get that project you have been wanting to do – DONE!

home SWEET home   8 comments

Two weeks ago while I was in my kitchen getting some things ready for my Chicago trip, I heard a strange sound in the ceiling.  It was a crinkling sound and I couldn’ quite figure out what to make of it.  I told my husband that I thought there was a little creature up there.

This last week on Tuesday morning, my husband called me and said, “remember that sound you heard in the kitchen – I don’t think it’s a creature, I think it might be water leak.  The ceiling is starting to discolor and there is a soft spot!”  Here is said ceiling with the discoloration and soft spot marked with the pencil mark…

I flew home on Friday this week and hubby and I were considering whether to cut through the ceiling to discover the source of the “water leak”  over dinner on Friday night.

This morning as we were inspecting the ceiling and considering who to call to take care of our “leak”, I looked outside and said – “Steve, what are all those bees doing hovering around the window?”  I walked out back and sure enough – the bees were going into the space above ceiling from the outside of the house!  OH MY! Not a water leak!

I called the exterminator and told them about the soft spot on the ceiling and that there was a crinkling noise in the ceiling like a little creature and that we could see the bees getting into the space above the ceiling from the outside of the house.  They said “DO NOT TOUCH THE SOFT SPOT! We will send someone out as soon as we can.  The soft spot is caused by the bees nesting in your drywall above the ceiling. If that soft spot opens…”

My response:  UH! “HOW QUICKLY CAN YOU GET HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND HURRY!”

The exterminator arrived – Chris – bless his heart!  I took him on a tour of the bee situation.  I first had him look at the ceiling and he said,

“OH MY! This soft spot is caused by the humidity and the honey from the bee hive!  It could be a pretty good sized one too!”  I then showed him the outside view and he said, “I am a little concerned about the soft spot.  We usually treat bees with a liquid solution and that could cause further damage or a break through. Don’t worry though, we will take care of this for you.”

My response: I hope so! Mind if I take some pictures? 🙂

So here you go folks, Chris at work…

The crinkling sound is no more.  We are left to deal with cleaning the windows from the spray and fog; calking the opening that the bees found; and fixing the discolored ceiling!

Chris is dealing with a couple of bee stings on his hand and going to the next bee situation!  Ours was his third for the day!  I sent him off with some ice for his bee sting and told him to get some new gloves!

Today’s word of wisdom to all of you out in bloggyland – make sure it really is a leak and not a bee hive in your ceiling before you go cutting a hole in your ceiling!  You could be in for a big surprise.  Our bee hive was bigger than a softball!  OH MY!

And how was your Saturday?

Laundry Prayers   19 comments

As I looked with dismay at the mounds of laundry that I was to wash, dry and fold,  I hastily uttered a cursing prayer, “Oh God, why me?  Why can’t someone else do this today? I am tired of this never ending duty!”

Little did I know that he would hear this prayer and give me an answer that would bring me to my knees.  He opened my tear filled eyes to a new opportunity to spend time with Him in tender fellowship.  As I cried out to Him, He showed me how to pray the laundry prayer for my precious family…

Father God, as I sort through these socks, matching and folding, I ask you to direct the paths of my family.  Walk with them.  Lead them and guide them in paths of righteousness.  Protect them Father from evil. May they not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners. May your Word light their path and may they seek your direction.

Oh Lord, as I fold this underwear, I pray for purity for each precious member of this family.  Lord, protect each one of us from sexual sin. Lord this world scares me to death with how easy it is to fall into temptation and to be led astray.  Oh God, I cry out to you – protect us from this evil.  May we not be enticed or delight in this seduction. May wisdom enter our hearts and knowledge be pleasant to our souls so that discretion protects us and understanding guards us. Heavenly Father we are weak and seek your wisdom and strength.

On and on my prayers went as I sorted and folded through the laundry.  I couldn’t wait to get to the next set of clothing to pray the next set of prayers.  I was praying like my family’s lives depended on it…

Jesus, may these t-shirts remind us to go out each day with our breastplates of righteousness in place; with our shields of faith at the ready.  May we daily seek your word and hide it in our hearts so that we are ready to extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Oh Lord, as we pull these shirts over our heads, may we remember our helmet of salvation. May we never forget your wondrous work on the cross that provided that salvation.  Keep our minds focused on you and your Word. Give us alert minds that will discern truth and may we speak your truth in love.

As we put these pants, skirts or shorts on Lord, remind us to be careful who we choose for our friends.  Again, give us discernment and may we seek wise counsel and not give in to peer pressure.  May we spend time in your word and not waste time sitting around filling our minds with idle chatter or useless information.  May our fellowship be sweet and encouraging. Protect us from the temptation to participate in gossip or slander.  May we honor you in our speech. Give us opportunities to share the hope that is within us and to encourage those who are struggling or grieving.

I was amazed at the amount of prayer that doing laundry had invoked!  I was humbled by the word pictures each piece of laundry brought to mind and how it could be turned into a prayer for me and my family.

Father God, I pray that you would bless these sheets and pajamas.  Give my family peaceful sleep and recuperating rest.  May you fill our dreams with thoughts of heaven and spending time with you in eternity.

Lord Jesus, protect our marriage bed!  Sanctify our marriage and may we bring honor and glory to you.  Keep our hearts pure and may the pleasure you provide solidify our devotion to each other.  May the thought of divorce never be spoken or thought of in this household.  Protect our vows and may our marriage be a godly example to our family and friends.  May we submit to one another as we submit and honor you.

The last pile of laundry that remained was the towels.  I will never be able to look at a towel the same again…

Father God, please wash me and heal me.  Lord, forgive me for my bad attitude.  Forgive me Lord, for it is against you alone that I have sinned.  Wash me and clothe me in your righteousness Lord.  Wash me and I will be whiter than snow.  Create in me a pure heart!

Wash the scales from my eyes. Open my eyes to see your will and your plan for me today.  Wash the dirt from the windows of my soul so that I may see the needs of those around me and focus on responding to those needs as you would see fit.

Humble me Lord.  As I wash and fold these towels, may I remember that you washed the feet of the disciples, teaching them and us to have the heart of a servant.  Lord, I caress this towel with tears of love and gently brush it across this laundry as a symbol and pledge of obedience to have the heart of servant touched by grace toward my family. I pledge to serve them wholeheartedly.  Thank you for giving me this wonderful opportunity to bless them with my laundry prayers.

Oh the joy of doing laundry – Thank you Jesus!

WFMW – Clean Can Opener   11 comments

For WFMW this week, I wanted to share with you how I clean my can opener.  The first time I did this, it really grossed me out because I had NEVER cleaned my can opener before.  Now I make SURE I do this on a regular basis!

collage32.jpg

You take a paper towel and fold it as shown in the second picture.  Then, just start twisting the can opener like your paper towel was a can you are trying to open.  Notice the gunk in picture 3?  You should have seen my paper towel the first time I did this – OH MY! I am sparing you the parental guidance grossness of it all because it was so long ago and well before I was blogging 🙂 !

Since, I do this so often, there is not that much that came off of my can opener.  But, it is still dirty. Now imagine if you have never cleaned your can opener – EEK!  This is why I clean it often.

If your can opener is super duper dirty, Here’s what else you can do before the above trick:

A clean can opener definitely works for me!

Note: I have not tried the paper towel trick on an electric can opener.
