“In our lives the darkest times, the days that are bleak and black, add depth to every other experience. Like the dark bits of color in a mosaic, they add the contrast and shadows that give beauty to the whole, but they are just a small part of the big picture.”

Mosaic: Pieces of My Life so Far

Like Paul says, It’s all on where we fix our eyes…

2 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

This quote describes our lives here on earth as we journey homeward.  The key is on where we have fixed our eyes.  What are we focusing on – the temporary or the eternal?  Are we focusing on the dark times that are just a small part of the big picture? Or are we focusing on the eternal glory that far outweighs our momentary troubles?

John 14:1 Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

This is my month of Thanksgiving and today I choose praise! Praise to my King who has it all under control! Praise to my God whom I trust. Praise to my Lord who is preparing a much better place than this!

Psalm 150:1 Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. 2 Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. 3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, 4 praise him with tambourine and dancing, praise him with the strings and flute, 5 praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. 6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

Let’s focus on the eternal shall we?

  3. Keeping our focus upward instead of inward changes the way the picture looks, doesn’t it? Good reminders.

  6. Lana,

Thanks for the prayer and all the encouragement. It is good to keep our eyes fixed on the positive side of things. When I pour out all the pain and sorrow of my life, when I am empty of tears, then I can see and feel Him sitting beside me holding me close. Praise Him for His great love.

  9. Let us always look beyond the temporal! For God is present even in the midst of our dark circumstances. Even though there is silence and perhaps confusion in the mind, let our rest be in His peace and assurance of eternity.
