WFMW – Backwards Day   14 comments

Wfmwheader

Shannon is mixing it up over at Rocks in my Dryer this week!  It is Backwards Day in WFMW-Land. Instead of giving a tip, we’re supposed to ask for one, on a very specific subject. We’re inviting all the WFMW readers to weigh in with their clever solutions to our most stubborn problems. My question is more of a survey question so here it goes:

How do you handle Christmas gift giving when you have to buy gifts for your side of the family, his side of the family, friends, the office your husband works at, the office you work at, etc.?!

Tuesday In Other Words – Turn your eyes upon Jesus   8 comments

“Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
and the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
in the light of his glory and grace.”

~ Helen Limmel ~

This week, Tuesdays In Other Words is being hosted for the first time by Lori at All You Have to Give. Thank you Lori for hosting.

Here are my thoughts on this week’s quote:

After reading and really thinking about the lines to the chorus of this great hymn, several questions came to mind:

Whose eyes am I looking into (in a spiritual sense)?  Where and how is my focus? Am I living in the light of his glory and grace? And, What does that look like?

If I am not focusing on Jesus, the cares of this world, the devil’s little schemes and day to day comforts (you read that right) will cause me to relax my focus and forget that this is a battle and I need to stay alert at all times.  I believe this is why we are told to “Pray without ceasing” and to “Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice.”

We know that when we are going through tough times it is important to stay focused on Jesus.  But, I also believe that even during the “easy” times, the blessings can cause us to glance away from Jesus. I believe that that is yet another of Satan’s schemes to try and get us to get our eyes off Jesus.  This is why it is so important to stay focused on Jesus through thick and thin; through trials and blessings.

I love the line of the chorus “strangely dim”.  When we focus on Jesus, the thought of focusing on the world is strange and the glory of Jesus is wonderful! So, what does living in the light of His glory and grace look like? I believe Colossians 3 gives us a road map:

12 Since God chose you to be the holy people whom he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 You must make allowance for each other’s faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14 And the most important piece of clothing you must wear is love. Love is what binds us all together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are all called to live in peace. And always be thankful. 16 Let the words of Christ, in all their richness, live in your hearts and make you wise. Use his words to teach and counsel each other. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. 17 And whatever you do or say, let it be as a representative of the Lord Jesus, all the while giving thanks through him to God the Father.

Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus.  May I stay focused on you with a thankful, rejoicing heart, full of love!
