Princess Diana 1961-1997   5 comments

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Princess Diana.  She is the only British royalty that I really appreciated and knew much about.  I too woke up in the wee hours of the morning to watch “The Wedding”.   Her story seemed so Cinderella-ish to me.  I was also shocked when I heard the story about the accident and waited to see if she would survive.  Such a sad ending.

While in France on one of our trips to Europe, we decided to do some evening site seeing. As we exited the Metro stop and saw this torch statue we both said, “What is that?”  We searched our tour books to see if anything was written about it.  As we walked closer,  we realized this was the pedestrian walkway over the street where the accident took place.  Here are some of the pictures we took.  The quality is not real great because I was still in the learning process of taking night pictures!! The last picture is a memorial they have at Harrod’s in London that we saw on the same trip.

So teach us to number our days, that we may present to You a heart of wisdom.

Show & Tell Friday – Dr. G’s Pram   22 comments

For Show & Tell Friday, I would like to share my father-in-law’s pram from the 1930’s.  My mother-in-law took it apart, cleaned it up and put it all back together again.  She has some great antiques with lots of family history.  She has a knack for restoring items and I will have to get more pictures of some of her pieces.

Yes, that is a picture of Dr. G as a little guy!  (Too Cute!) The pram was first used for his older sister and then for Dr. G.  I love that they still have it and boy is it in great condition!

Thankful Thursday – Mom & Pop   9 comments

I wanted to participate today in Thankful Thursday to honor my mother and father.  I am so thankful for the joy and love they displayed in our home growing up.  I had the privilege of being brought up in a Christian home with parents who loved the Lord and wanted their children, grandchildren and generations forward to do the same.

It was not an easy road for my parents. There were plenty of bumps and hazards along the way, yet they trusted and continue to trust the Lord of their highway.  They are in their mid eighties and are still serving and obeying the Lord with every breath they take.  I know when they reach the end of the road, Jesus will welcome them saying, “Well done, my good and faithful servants.”

I want to be just like them…

Ruth Part 7 – Marry Me   2 comments

Ruth 3:9″Who are you?” he asked. “I am your servant Ruth,” she said. “Spread the corner of your garment over me, since you are a family guardian.”

We are back at the scene where Boaz has just discovered a woman lying at his feet and he asks in shock, “Who are you?”.  He does not realize or recognize that the woman at his feet is Ruth.  Ruth has been waiting and rehearsing this moment in her mind for hours.

The following is a quote from the book, “Esther and Ruth” by Iain M. Duguid on what happens next:

“Here is where Ruth’s actions diverged from her mother-in-law’s instructions.  Instead of leaving the situation dangerously ambiguous, as a woman of character Ruth wanted to make her intentions clear right from the outset.  Her goal was a commitment to marriage, not a single night of passion.  In the ancient world, such a commitment was symbolized by the gesture of covering someone with the corner of one’s robe, roughly equivalent to the giving of an engagement ring in our culture.”

So Ruth got straight to the point and made sure Boaz knew and understood her intentions right off the bat.  She didn’t want him assuming anything but what she had come for: a marriage proposal.  Remember back in Ruth 2:12 where Boaz tells Ruth:

“May the Lord repay you for what you have done.  May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.”

Ruth is now asking Boaz to provide a refuge for her and Naomi under his wings as a kinsman redeemer – a guardian of the family interest.  She appealed to him to be the family member who, (quoting Iain M. Duguid again) “at his own cost, would act to rescue those whose future had been blighted.”

Does that sound familiar?  Is there One who at His own cost, acted to rescue our future that had been blighted?  You and I have a Kinsman-Redeemer and His name is Jesus.  Under His wings we can come and take refuge. We are the bride of Christ.  He has redeemed us, therefore we have a future and a hope! I love the following song by Melody Green…

There is a Redeemer

There is a Redeemer,
Jesus, God’s own Son,
Precious Lamb of God, Messiah,
Holy One,
Jesus my Redeemer,
Name above all names,
Precious Lamb of God, Messiah,
Oh, for sinners slain.

Thank you oh my Father,
For giving us Your Son,
And leaving Your Spirit,
‘Til the work on Earth is done.
When I stand in Glory,
I will see His face,
And there I’ll serve my King forever,
In that Holy Place.
