Italy – A modern society in an ancient setting   3 comments

Rome is amazing.  You walk the streets and there are wonderful sites all around.  The architecture, the ruins everything is where you are.  We had a great time touring yesterday. We had a church planting missionary join the group yesterday and here are his impressions of Italy:

 Italy is a social society and the following are very important to them:

Food – It is an art form and you could probably get into a lengthy conversation with an Italian just by asking what is for dinner.

Family- It is very important. The spending power decreased overnight with the Euro. Most families are partitioning old villas and building apartments for the kids.  Family communes.

Fashion and beauty.  They always say Bello or Bruto – Beautiful is how they describe what is good.  A clean train is a beautiful train. Beauty is a passion.

Fast Cars-Ferrari – Mazerrati Lambourghini expensive fast cars.  Everyone drives like Mario Andretti.  One inch is as good as a mile.   Stop signs are merely suggestions. Grocery carts in the store are the same way. Motorcycles galore!

Faith- Cultural religion.  Their churches are like museums with all the beautiful art and icons and statues.

Okay, I have to catch the bus for our trip to the Vatican today.  I will post more later!

A Purple Cow
By Mr. Gelett Burgess

I never saw a Purple Cow,
I never hope to see one;
But I can tell you, anyhow,
I’d rather see than be one.

In response to the unfortunate success of the above poem….

Ah, Yes! I Wrote the “Purple Cow” —
  I’m Sorry, now, I Wrote it!
  But I can Tell you Anyhow,
  I’ll Kill you if you Quote it!
